Smoky eye makeup is a common sight at glam events, night parties or even dates because the smoky eye look gives an alluring and dramatic look for the evening and is one of the most popular eye makeup ideas. The smoky eye is a must for those ladies who use fake eyelashes as it helps in camouflaging the stick on the fake eyelashes. Here at Makeup Ideas Mag we’re going to break down in ten easy to follow steps to create a perfect smoky eye look.
1. Start with the eyes
Starting your face makeup with the eyes will save you some time and possibly frustration as well. This is because you will probably get some shadow smudging and fallout, it is much difficult to swipe with some makeup remover on skin that has already been made-up than on bare skin.
2. Use a primer
A primer is recommendable to use under all your shadows especially with a smoky eye. It gives an even and smooth base, necessary for all the blending desired with a smoky eye.
3. Have a good selection of colors
You can do a silver smoky eye, a black one, a teal one, whatever you desire. The essence of a smoky eye being to have the colors forming a gradient, that is, from the darkest to the lightest, you will want a white or silver shadow, a couple of grays, a lighter black shadow and a dark black shadow.
4. Keep an eyeliner handy
I recommend crayon, gel formulas or pencil; these are better off than liquid liners because the latter dry quickly and become harder to smudge. You will require a liner to line the bottom lash line, the top lash line and the waterline. You do not need to draw a perfect line, the liner is simply meant to blend light into the shadow.
5. Use a good quality brushes
For the application of the shadow to the lid, you will need a flat shader brush, a pencil for the lash line and tear duct, a mid-sized brush to work on the crease and a fluffy brush for the application of light colors and for blending.
6. Blend, blend, blend
Your ultimate goal is to have obvious lines with one color ending and another one beginning. Make use of the fluffy brush to blend out any harsh appearing lines. Use small circular motions to smoke out the crease color. Using the back of your hand, gently wipe the brush to remove the color before starting to blend each new section.
7. Apply slightly lighter shadow to the brow bone
Dip the fluffy brush into the shadow and apply it across your brow bone. Apply using a windshield motion. The skin tone should slightly overlap the top of the crease shadow.
8. Apply a highlight color
You need just a dot on the center of the brow bone, not much. Some under the tear duct and some above the tear duct. This is meant to brighten up the eye, an important aspect with heavy eye makeup appearances.
9. Go for lots of lashes
Load up mascara on the top lashes. While holding the wand, blink into it to add length. Apply mascara to the bottom lashes, just a little. False lashes make the smoky eye more dramatic.
10. Remember the rest of the face
A medium coverage foundation is desirable with a smoky eye, a little blush, some bronzer and a neutral lip.
