While celebrity fashionista’s pulled out all the stops for the 2013 VMA’s, some celebs shone brighter than others, such as pop music sensation Selena Gomez who looked stunning in a deep blue Versace gown. While Gomez has been experimenting with a number of quirky hairstyles and bold make-up of late, she returned to the basics for the VMA’s, with jaw dropping results. Here at Makeup Ideas Mag we’ll show you how Gomez achieved the look and how you can mimic the Selena Gomez 2013 makeup VMA.
For Selena’s look celebrity makeup artist Gita Bass went for a sleek, minimalistic effect with a hint of sexy that would be great for fall this year, while her hairstylist Lona Vigi kept it simple- straight and glossy for a touch of elegance.
Step 1- complexion
To begin with Gita Bass applied a Simple Hydrating Light Moisturizer (perfect for any skin tone as it has no dyes) to ensure that Selena’s skin was glowing, followed by an Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and Cle de Peau concealer which worked to even out her skin tone. Keep in mind that foundation is much easier to apply and will stay on longer if you use a moisturizer first.
Step 2- It’s all in the eyes and lips
For Selena’s cat-eyes Gita used- Make Up for Ever Aqua Eyes eyeliner in 3L to match her dress and then applied the YSL Volume Effect Faux Cil Mascara to give her voluminous eyelashes. Remember to begin with a neutral primer over your entire eyelid, beginning from your brow bone and into the crease of your eye which will prevent the makeup from smudging and make it last longer. For her luscious lips Bass applied the Tom Ford Lip Color in Black Orchid.
Step 3- Frizz free and fine
For Selena’s hair Lona Vigi opted for a simple straight look so as not to distract from the exposed corset on her dress. Vigi applied a combination of Frizz-Ease Hair Serum Original Formula and Straight Fixation Smoothing Creme to Gomez’s wet hair which gave it that lovely glossy and frizz-free texture. For the next step Vigi used the Harry Josh Pro Tools Pro Dryer and a round brush to blow dry Selena’s hair and as a final touch for additional silkiness she applied the Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Creme. For any additional stray hairs that were missed Vigi used a firm-hold hairspray- John Frieda Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray.
The finished look was clean and flawless and was the perfect way to highlight that Versace gown rather than going overboard. This look is extremely easy to pull off and the makeup can be substituted to suit your skin tone and preferences. Add a touch of blush to highlight your cheekbones and change up the hairstyle because this makeup will work with any kind of hair from curly to wavy and any kind of hairstyle whether open or pulled back. This clean look will also work well with any outfit. Have fun with achieving the Selena Gomez 2013 VMA look!
