The different makeup brushes are important so it’s better to understand what these different brushes do. Here at Makeup Ideas Mag we’ll give you a quick guide to the different makeup brushes you’ll need along the way.
The foundation brush is flat with long bristles and is used to apply foundation. It is used for mineral based foundations but can also work with liquid based foundations. The foundation brush will make your foundation look more even on your skin compared to using your finger and is also cleaner.
Contour brush and concealer brush
These two brushes are smaller than the foundation brush and the bristles are made from softer materials such as sable or squirrel. These can be used on more sensitive areas of the face such as around the eye. The contour brush can also be used with bronzer on your cheek, brows and chin to give a healthier glow.
A blender blush is larger and bushier. This can also be used with powders, bronzers and blushes so that you can quickly “blend” different shades together so that the different shades are less defined. Remember to use quick and soft strokes so that you don’t get too much powder on your face. For the last part you can touch off your makeup routine using a fan brush to lightly finish your makeup.
Some people also brush their lips to exfoliate their lips! You can use an old toothbrush with soft bristles before using lipstick or lip gloss so that your lip makeup ideas will look their best. Use a contoured brush to add lipstick. These brushes are small and angled to fit the curve of your upper and lower lip. A small pointed lip brush can be used to apply lip liner to line your lips.
Remember to maintain your makeup brushes by washing them frequently with mild soap water and allowing them to dry naturally. This will stop the brushes from building up bacteria and mold. Also try to dry them downward to avoid the adhesive on the bristles to lose its effect. Don’t pat the brushes as this may also distort the shape of the bristles and the brush. This also goes for when you apply your makeup. Try not to use too much pressure as this will make the bristles lose their shape and will make applying makeup more difficult to keep even and controlled. Another tip is to spend a little more on a better quality brush as opposed to a cheap one. Regardless of whether the bristles use animal fur or synthetic bristle. This will help prevent the bristles from shedding. Take care of your makeup brushes and have fun!
